Ozone therapy is used to treat a wide range of conditions, such as chronic pain and inflammation, arthritis, various bacterial and viral infections, and the revascularisation of dead or dying tissues. It is also currently being studied as a potential treatment for cancer.

Ozone has significant applications in cosmetology, dermatology, skin care, autoimmune disorders, and numerous medical, dermatological, and neurological conditions.

Ozone Protection Mask

Though ozone finds tremendous usage in medical practice, direct inhalation of ozone is not recommended. The smell of ozone is an irritant and can also exacerbate bronchial asthma and COPD.

Ozone inhalation by the treating clinician or assistants is not an issue in intra articular, intra diskal, pain portals, or MAHT procedures, where the ozone is drawn into a syringe and the machine is switched off immediately.

However, in insufflation procedures such as vaginal, rectal, and other treatments where both inlet and outlet points for ozone are present, the exiting ozone must be directed into a destroyer. Even with this arrangement, there is a possibility of leakage, which can cause the entire room to smell of ozone.

Similarly, when an operation theatre is being sterilised with ozone, staff members entering or exiting during the process may end up breathing ozone, which is not desirable.

IAOS ozone protection masks with activated charcoal are a patent-pending innovation, where an airtight mask is used and inhalation occurs through a chamber filled with activated charcoal. This assembly is highly recommended for all ozone procedures for the therapist and staff.

STAINLESS STEEL OZONE DESTROYERS

Ozone destroyers are needed for all exiting ozone gas so that it does not diffuse into the air and irritate the nasal or pulmonary mucosa. Stainless steel is the best ozone-compatible material, and connecting it to the outlet of the ozone system ensures safety for the therapist, assistant, and patient.

STAINLESS STEEL DIFUSERS

A therapist needs diffusers for the uniform spread of ozone into water for drinking, ozonised water for facial misting, ozonised saline for wound washes and pre-closure washing, and ozonating oils for cosmetic and therapeutic applications.

Simply placing the other end of a silicone tube into water or oil will create bubbles, but it will not diffuse ozone thoroughly through the water, saline, or oil. Therefore, an ozone diffuser is used to uniformly perfuse the liquid with ozone.

IAOS machines come with two diffuser stones, but stainless steel diffusers are more convenient and offer better diffusion capabilities.

IAOS stainless steel diffusers are available at a special offer. Each diffuser is priced at Rs 4,000, and two stainless steel diffusers are available for Rs 7,000. GST at 18% is applicable.

These diffusers are compatible with IAOS silicone tubes and will last for many years. The diffusers can be autoclaved, washed, and sterilised. It is recommended that the practitioner uses different diffusers for ozonating oils and water. Likewise, it is also recommended that the practitioner keeps separate sets for OPD use, one for the operation theatre, and a couple of spares.

If the stones become clogged due to repeated use, simply boiling them in water and then attaching the open end to a suction machine will clear all clogs and restore normal functioning.

Major autohaemotherapy is a procedure in which 50 ml of the patient’s blood is drawn and perfused with 50 to 60 ml of ozone at a concentration of 70 micrograms per cent. The bubbling of diffused ozone makes the blood turn cherry red. The ozonated blood is then retransfused back into the patient. There are a wide range of indications for the MAHT procedure, which are described in detail in the book and course lessons.
